Port
15 Utah is working with Union Pacific and the local
community to build a 28 Acre Transload Center that will
allow our community to participate in the largest growth
industry in transportation.
Transload Transportation is using more
than one form of transportation to move products in an
efficient manner from one location to another. In
railroad terminology, transload consists of loading
containers on rail cars and shipping them to locations
where they are directly taken off the cars and loaded
onto waiting trucks to be relocated to their end
destination.
Transload
requires speci alized
facilities and equipment to allow this type of
movement.
Presently, there
is not an Transload Facility located anywhere in
Southern Utah. The closest locations are Las Vegas
which is exceeding capacity and Salt Lake City.
In today’s
world, efficient freight transportation is a necessary
element for a healthy economy. Getting a product out
the door is no longer the goal of any U.S. Business, the
goal is getting the product out the door and in the
hands of the consumer. With the growing economy
freeways and roadways are growing more crowded with
large trucks. Today’s transportation system is very
dependent on highway-based carriage. Transload
transportation has become a necessity because of the
growth of the shipping market and the escalation of fuel
prices.
